Last week in New York City, designers showcased their latest Pre-Fall Season collections giving us a sneak peak at what is to come this fall.
Like a present before Christmas day, this season was full of understated surprises, waiting to be opened before the actual fall season arrives. With the Pre-season shows in full swing, American designer Michael Kors, Donna Karen and Nicole Miller created lines with their eager customers in mind: filled with bright layers and good clean tailoring. The clothes were clean, elegant, and had a softness to them could easily been seen around the fur collars of some of the models.
The “in between season,” that will begin to appear in stores this May seemed to pay homage to different decades, as new updated classics with a modern twist found its way on the runway of designers such as Vera Wang. With that in mind, it was clear that versatility was on the menu, and would make any uptown girl look like a beautifully wrapped present.
There seemed to be a cohesive feeling among the collections to give women all they need to get through every season creating transitional lines that could be worn year round. Michael Kors wowed spectators with his functional collection of separates that included everything from tuxedo pants to graphic sweaters.
Elie Tahari thought of the working girl, with fabulous separates that can go anywhere from day or night, without missing a beat. With a bold color pallete of mustards and jewel tones of ruby red and sapphire, the colors of fall are looking less than grim.
With the ever changing pace of the runway these days, who knows what is in stores this February when the 2011 actual fall lines will be revealed. But for now, it seems designers are listening to their customers and giving them the opportunity to find that everyday classic statement piece to get them through the holidays. In the on-going trend of designers looking to their customers’ needs to create their latest creations, vs. the other way around: It appears, these seasons couldn’t get much spicier.
